Alistair “The REEM” Overeem returns to Strong-Athlete.com for the final installment of Season One of the REEM documentary. Alistair recently competed in the Strikeforce Heavyweight tournament against Fabricio Verdum. The fight was an interesting chess match, pitting the otherworldly striking skills of the REEM against the elite grappling ability of two-time Abu Dhabi Submission Grappling Champion Verdum. Unfortunately, the fight was not an exciting one for fans, who wanted to see much more action and felt cheated by the boring three-round affair.
Although Alistair managed to claim victory through ring control and landing more power shots, he did little to silence the naysayers who contend that he is overrated and has not done anything special against top flight competition. We’ll see how he fares in the semi-finals. Next up for Alistair is a date with Antonio “Big Foot” Silva, a giant of a man with heavy hands and elite Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills. A victory against Silva would surely quiet some of the critics, especially if delivered in knockout fashion. If Alistair can pull off a victory and ultimately win the tournament, it would just be a matter of time before we see him head over to the UFC. Alistair versus Cain Velasquez or Junior Dos Santos presents one of the most exciting heavyweight matchups in recent memory. We’ll see how it all shakes out.
Enjoy the final installment of Season One of the REEM documentary.
